A.

This virtual City Council work session of the City of Greensboro was called to order at 2 p.m. on the above date.

Mayor Vaughan took a roll call to confirm Councilmembers in attendance.

B.

Interim City Manager Chris Wilson, spoke to Women's Equality Day; and introduced the item.

Director of Engineering and Inspection, Kenney McDowell made a PowerPoint Presentation (PPP); spoke to City facilities and structures; to ongoing maintenance; to minor building repairs; to the maintenance history; to building inventory; to estimated costs; to routine and non-routine maintenance; to unfunded needs; and to the Central Library repairs.

Discussion took place regarding the Cultural Art Center; and American Rescue Funds (ARP). 

Interim City Manager Wilson spoke to an upcoming Work Session on ARP funds.

Discussion continued regarding community engagement; the Central Library roof; citywide maintenance needs; and prioritizing City repairs.

Chief Deputy City Attorney, Al Andrews introduced Associate La-Deidre Matthews from Parker Poe Attorneys and Counselors at Law (Parker Poe) who spoke to a time line for the redistricting committee; to census data; and to appointing members.

Discussion ensued regarding committee members; selection criteria; demographics; and alternates. 

Team Lead Behavioral Crisis Counselor, Erin Williams spoke to behavioral health history; to goals and a co-response model; to the Behavioral Health Response Team (BHRT); to homeless assistance; to a six month program summary; to program demographics; to housing assistance; to networking and to next steps.

Discussion took place regarding behavioral health in Districts 1 and 2; food deserts; homelessness; reoccurring calls for assistance; substance abuse; and response times. 

Councilmember Hightower requested staff to provide partnership opportunities to address poverty, mental health concerns, crime, affordable housing, and homelessness.

Mayor Pro-Tem Johnson left the meeting at 3:50 p.m.

Councilmember Thurm requested staff to research partnering with Guilford County for financial support for behavioral health programs.

Moved by Councilmember Hightower, seconded by Councilmember Thurm, to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried by affirmation. 

The City Council Adjourned at 4:07 p.m.
