This City Council work session of the City of Greensboro was called to order at 2 p.m. on the above date.

City Manager Tawio Jaiyeoba introduced the item; and spoke to summer programs.

Parks and Recreations Director, Phil Fleischmann made a PowerPoint Presentation (PPP); spoke to youth programs; to teen opportunities; to family activities; to city priorities; highlighted adopted plans; partnerships; resources; summer camp programs; spoke to financial assistance. Mr. Fleischmann continued to provide an overview of Camp Joy; Energy at the Park program; spoke to career development; to Xtreme teen outdoor adventure week; to Greensboro Youth Outdoors; to Teen Nights; and to Youth Sports Clinics.

Discussion took place regarding scheduling; and camper participation. 

Councilmember Hightower requested staff to provide outreach for summer camp activities.

Mayor Pro-Tem Johnson requested staff to provide summer activity data for Keeley and Barner Parks. 

Mr. Fleischmann continued the PPP; highlighted spray grounds and pools; spoke to maintenance for aquatic centers; to the master plan; to pool hours; to transportation schedules; and to free admission fees.

Mayor Pro-Tem Johnson requested staff to research Park and Recreation maintenance project apprenticeship opportunities.  

Mayor Pro-Tem Johnson left the meeting at 2:28 p.m. and returned to the meeting at 2:31 p.m.

Discussion continued regarding safe and maintained pools; cost estimations; and existing bonds. 

Mr. Fleischmann outlined facility recommendations; maintenance timelines; and spoke to water safety skills. 

Discussion ensued regarding amenities; economic development; historical budgets; affordable housing; deferred maintenance; the comprehensive plan; assessment scores; a Learn to Swim program; partnerships; funding; and community reinvestments. 

Councilmember Matheny requested staff to provide Parks and Recreation budget data for the past 5-years.

Councilmember Thurm requested staff to provide an inclusive scope of Parks and Recreation facility needs. 

Councilmember Hightower requested staff to provide a breakdown of the hotel/motel tax.

Moved by Councilmember Matheny, seconded by Councilmember Wells, to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried by affirmation.

The City Council Adjourned at 3:25 p.m.
